Latvian Army – 90: Remembering History and Looking Forward

The year of the 90th anniversary of the Latvian Army culminated on 11 November, when 90 years had passed since the victory of the newly formed state's army over the Bermondt-Avalov troops. This victory made the freedom of Latvia believable; it opened a way to the full liberation of the state's territory. On Lacplesis Day, Latvia commemorated soldiers of the Freedom Fights who fought for the independence of Latvia.

The Army is one of the components of the state, as demonstrated by the history of our country - the armed forces began their formation along with other state governance institutions. Besides, the roots of the Latvian Army also formed at the time when national self-confidence had appeared and was developing. At the same time, many people understood that it is impossible to establish a country and ensure its independence without state defence.
